He’s smiling that somewhat sad smile because of Willy’s words echoing his perspective, not because he wants to murder everyone there. I’ve seen that one big panel with Eren smiling taken out of context way too many times in the tags and it’s driving me nuts. Eren hears his perspective echoed back at him, so he says the Marleyans are all the same as the Eldians. These pages are all a continuous single scene, not separate scenes. In the first interpertation, what Eren means here is destroying the system of Marley, not killing all the innocent people.Ĭontext and framing is extremely important. What I’m pretty sure about is that Reiner and Falco are alive and well. You can read it as having somewhat of a sinister undertone which I’ll touch upon later with the second interpertation, but also as a supportive exclamation. This isn’t a exclamation of revenge, it’s one of confidence. I’m more leaning towards the former, but I’ll also explain the latter. The other is that he has grown past his perspective, but chooses to ignore the lesson because the world is just that cruel and there’s nothing they can do about it. One is that Eren has fully grown past his childish perspective. This chapter is somewhat of a headache to interpret because I see two different ways to read it. He sees his enemy as human, which is very different from the childish Eren from chapter 6.
